Homework 4 – Due 10th September

In order to complete this homework you will be required to analyse the data you collect on your football performance.

You will now have to analyse your data in detail so that you can identify your strengths and weaknesses. In your POB jotter write up your detailed analysis. Compare your first half performance to your second half performance on your movement analysis sheet and work out how much work you did and how effective it was. Was there a particular area of strength or weakness? Was there an area that dropped of in the second half? Use figures from your sheets to back up your analysis. For example my long sprinting was very effective at the start of the game as I completed 5 successful sprints an no ineffective ones however towards the end of the second half my sprinting dropped I only completed 2 successful sprints out of 6 in the 36-40 min period.

You will also have to compare your first half performance to your second half performance on your skill analysis sheet and work how effective you were. Was there a particular area of strength or weakness? Was there an area that dropped of in the second half? Yet again you will have to back up your analysis with figures from your sheets. Compare your thoughts and feelings as the game progressed. Is there a link to the movement and skill analysis sheets?

Your answer should be about 1 page in length and will be marked on a pass/fail basis.

NB The more detail and time you spend on making a good analysis the better your answer will be for the internal assessment.

  1. Homework 4

Overall my first half performance was efficiently better than my second half performance, as during the second half period I became more tired and unaware of my duties, this lead to the lack of concentration and then lead to further mistakes such as incomplete passes and ineffective runs. Looking at the results in the second half compared to the first half I made more runs and more passes but they were less effective and more effective in the first half when concentration levels were high.

My skill sheet shows much of the same results, ineffective passes, poor runs, less and poor touches of the ball. In total I played a 40-minute (2x 20 minute halves) game of football, which was videoed by Mr.Petrie for me to analyse and evaluate my performance as the game proceeded. Every 10 minutes I took a note of my physical abilities both mentally and physically.

The results suggest that the further on in the game I went the more physically unable I became. After the first 10 minutes I showed that I was relaxed, warmed up and ready for more, also motivated, concentrated and determined. Whereas compared to the last 10-minute period I showed that I was getting tired out and needed a rest.

The results from the 40-minute game of football showed that the longer the game of football lasted the more tired I became and then I have a lack of concentration and determination. This leads to ineffective passes and a poorer performance and participation in the game.

  2. I played a 30 minute (2 x 15 min halves) of football, which was videoed for me to analyse and evaluate my performance as the game proceeded. After every 10 minutes of the game I noted how I felt both physically and mentally. At the start of the match I was determined and relaxed anticipating the game. In the first half I began at a gentle pace with the majority of the time used walking and jogging, accompanied by a few short sprints. I had quite a lot of possession at the beginning of the game, completing short passes and a long pass. There were also a couple of intercepted passes early on in the game. Also when receiving passes I had good control of the ball, either in attacking or defensive positions. When attacking I tried different tactics like dribbling with the ball, a variety of shots, mainly placed, and a few driven. In the first 10 minutes I scored a goal to give my team the lead. Defensively in the first half there were a lot of tackles I made where I gained possession from most of them but some I was unsuccessful e.g. 50/50 challenges. As the first half went on I was feeling good as I felt I was progressing well and I was still determined to perform to my ability. Towards the end of the first half I began to get more involved in the game changing paces from a walk to a sprint, and my work effort was even higher as I was making more sprints to get the ball or move into space to receive passes. I also completed the most passes in the last 5 minutes of the first half as I began to play more defensively with fewer shots on goal. At half time I was feeling a small bit of fatigue bit this did not affect my performance. After the half time break I was continuously producing more passes with the odd one intercepted. My control of the ball was good under pressure from the opposition and my high amount of placed shots resulted in another goal, with driven shots saved, and a volley missing the target. I started off the second half with fluctuating paces, with my most consistent running in the full game. Halfway through the second half I began to feel fatigued and my pace began to slow down with more walking/jogging than half pace running/sprinting. Towards the end my mental strength also depleted but I was still confident and motivated by the way my performance had gone with the majority of the game. Towards the end of the game I played in a more defensive role as I made a lot more successful tackles and defensive headers to prevent the opposition from scoring. I was only walking in the last few minutes with a couple of effective runs when coming back to defend from an advanced position before putting in a few effective tackles. After the game I was physically tired but could have continued with the game as I had more energy left. Because the result was positive for the whole team this had a good effect on my mentality and I thought my performance was at a high level to be pleased with as I played a variety of techniques. I thought my first half was more effective than my second half performance because I was less tired. I had more successful tackles, passes (long and short), effective runs and more shots at goal in the first 15 minutes.

  3. During the P.E lesson I played 2 20 minute halves of football which were videoed for assessment. This allowed me to evaluate and analyze my performance in the game of football
In the first half of the game results show that I made an effective contribution to the game. In the first 10 minuets I made 5 successful short sprints and kept up a steady jogging pace. This would have been important in the game to make an impression on the opposition at the start of the game. This would link in with how a felt at the start of the game. I felt confident, keen to win with a positive attitude and because it was the start of the game I felt fresh and full of energy. At the end of the first half my lack c.v fitness begin to show. Although I still performed half pace running and short sprints some of these where unsuccessful due to my lack of stamina. T his my also have been linked to the overall performance of the team as we where not playing to are potential

This would link in with how I felt at the start of the game. I felt confident, keen to win with a positive attitude and because it was the start of the game I felt fresh and full of energy. At the end of the first half my lack of c.v fitness begin to show. Although I still performed half pace running and short sprints some of these were unsuccessful due to my lack of stamina. This may also have been linked to the overall performance of the team as we were not playing to our full potential
In the second half it was again clear that my lack of c.v fitness played a part in poor movement as my jogging and walking were in effective and towards the end of the 40 minutes my contribution to the game decreased. This was to do with high fatigue and negative attitude due to the poor result of the team.
In relation to skills, in the first half I made many effective short passes and two effective long passes. This was important at the start of the game to establish a good pass and move game. This would be linked to my confidence and positive attitude and lack fatigue. I also made two successful tackles and a defensive header. This is linked to the more defensive role I like to play and may account for the lack of long runs in the game as I was playing a more defensive role. Again my performance tailed off at the end of the 20 minutes as my output declines. I was still feeling positive at this point as I felt we still had the opportunity to be successful and possibly win.
In the second half, I made less tackles and some attempts at shooting which were ineffective. This shows a last attempt to win the game, coming out of defense and attempting to score. I maintained a good level of short passing throughout the game which is a valuable skill to play throughout the game.
Overall my strengths were playing a strong defensive position in the first half and making many successful short and long passes. this makes movement and opens up the game. My weakness was probably my c.v fitness. I should aim to improve this so that my contribution can be at its full level for the whole duration of a game.

  5. During our P.E. lesson I played in a game of football lasting two halves of 20 minutes which were videoed by the class teacher. The game was videoed so that the next day I could analyse and evaluate my performance during the game. After every 10 minute period we had to note down in brief how we were feeling mentally and physically. Before the match had started I noted that I was feeling physically fresh and mentally I was anticipating the challenge ahead, motivated and calm. I started the first 10 min period at quite a high level completing 5 successful short sprints along with 8 half pace running. Physically I started the match at a high level although I did not get much of the ball as I only completed 2 short passes out of 3 and only 1 long pass. During the first period I had 1 successful dribble and when I did receive the ball from a pass I had good control of the ball. On the defensive side of things I was having a shocker as I had only completed 1 successful tackle.

As the first 10 minutes came to a close I noted down the mentally I wanted to be involved in the game and try to start creating more scoring opportunities for my team and try to push my team in a forward direction. I started to receive the ball more and during this period I completed 8 short passes and 4 long passes. My control of the ball was still of a high level although I did miscontrol a couple of passes. I was still working just as hard as I was in the first 10 mins completing just as many long and short sprints along with a good amount of half pase running. To add to my successful start completed my first successful shot on goal when I buried the ball into the goal to leave the keeper wishing he wasn’t alive, with an accurately placed strike from just inside the area.

As the first half came to a close I was really starting to feel tired as I had started the match at such a high level the game was beginning to get harder as I was tiring. During the second half I started to do a lot more walking and jogging compared to sprinting. At the beginning of the half I was still trying to work at a high level as I still completed 5 out of 6 successful short passes and 1 long pass it was also at the beginning of the second period that I completed the most dribbles of the game, I did 5 successful dribbles with 1 resulting in my second goal of the game. My performance then dropped dramatically in both aspects physically and skill wise. I was walking a lot more due to tiredness and fatigue setting in my pass completion also went down as I started to miss place a lot more passes mainly short passes. I was now mentally draining but was still confident and motivated to finish the game at a high level. My team was in cruise control winning the game by 4 goals to nil this also helped me to keep going as I wanted to beat my opponents by as many goals as we could.

I thought that during the first half I was a more effective player that in the second half as I had more energy to burn and be able to get involved in the game. My strengths during the game were when my team was attacking and I was able to dribble into attacking areas and play good passes into attacking areas. I felt that my weakness was my cardio respiratory endurance because if it was of a higher level I think I could have kept going for the entire period of the game.

  6. During the football match I recorded how often I performed certain actions such as sprints or successful passes and the results I obtained clearly show that my performance dropped as the game progressed to the latter stages. From my results I can clearly see that my performance dropped as time passed. During the first 5 minutes of the match I made 3 successful sprints and only had to walk once. During this time I made a few useful short passes and my control of the ball was of very high quality. I also attempted a placed shot which didn’t work. At this point in the game I was highly motivated and determined to do well. I felt relaxed and fresh because I hadn’t been working for that long yet.

In the 6-10 minute period my performance was still at a high level and my 2 long sprints were both successful. I also completed a short sprint to get the ball. I was however caught walking once and jogging back when I should have been running. At this point my control of the ball was still good as was my short passing with three useful passes, one of which led to a goal. My tackling was good as well and I went on along dribble. After the first ten minutes I was starting to sweat as it was a very warm day but was still determined to do better as my team were losing badly.

The next 5 minutes were quite quiet for me as I made a couple of successful sprints and passes but I spent most of the time defending. I made three vital tackles and performed my only header of the game. This led into half time and I was glad of the rest but still wanted to score.

During the 2nd half my performance notably dropped as I started to become tired. I was fine just after half time because I had had a much needed rest and this was clear from my movement across the pitch. I completed 3 short sprints and a long one in the 16-20 minute period. I also put in some useful tackles, a couple of short passes and I attempted a shot but it was ineffective. After this period I was lacking motivation as my team were losing and was feeling really thirsty too.

During the next 5 minutes my fatigue set in and I only sprinted once. I was also caught walking 3 times when I should have been running. My control of the ball was sloppy as I only controlled 2 out of the 4 passes to me. I did put in a few tackles but failed to do much with the ball and missed 2 long passes and a short one.

This led into the last few minutes of the match and I started this section determined to score. I completed 4 short sprints but I walked 3 times as I was very tired. In this period I went on 2 long dribbles but my control of the ball was poor, missing three attempts out of six. I did however manage to tap in a goal from close range and also drive a shot into the back of the net to finally score. The match finished not long after and I came off very satisfied with my overall performance.
